Choosing a school for your toddler

There is a stage in life for all parents that they must find a school for the Child. Most of the Parents know about the Traditional Method, very few know about the Montessori Method. Some, they want to put the child to school because they know the importance of the first few years of a Child’s Life. These two learning methods are totally different from each other. The way of handling the child and the environment is different from each other. This article will give you a clear picture of what the two methods are, and which one is the best for your child.

Traditional Method

Traditional Method is also called in several names at Nursery, kindergarten, pre-school. This is a method where most parents know. This method is based on the transfer of the national curriculum. The traditional method is a teacher-centered classroom. The teacher is responsible of every child in meeting the guidelines of the school. Here there is only one age group. Silence is enforced in a Traditional Nursery. There is also a fixed curriculum in a nursery. When a Child makes a mistake or something nice Punishments and rewards are in the Nursery program. The classrooms in the nursery are decorated with colorful posts. Full of chairs and tables. Nursery schools focus mostly on a play-based curriculum.  Teaching is happening while the children are faced towards the board. Traditional schools have no materials, but book work.

Montessori Method

This is called the Montessori Method. This method is founded by Dr. Maria Montessori. Montessori is a Child-centered Method. The child follows his own interest and develops at his own phase.  In a Montessori Environment the adult focus on the whole development of the child. The environment itself is unique and it is made for the child. It is Prepared for the Child. There is learning happening, but the child learns with the materials. And by himself, the child understands through his own experience through the materials. There are no rewards or Punishments in the Montessori Method. In a Montessori Prepared Environment there are materials which have a purpose for each material. And there are scientific materials. Materials are kept well organized on racks, so it is easy for the Children to choose what they need. And here they also learn to keep things in the same place after they use. There is a Trained Adult if the child needs help. There is no Teacher but a Trained Adult. The Montessori classroom is divided into five areas,

  • Exercises of Practical Life
  • Sensorial
  • Language
  • Mathematics
  • Culture

This is a mixed aged group program. There will be younger once learning from the older students. Montessori program will be for 3 years and at the end of the 3 years there is a guarantee that your child is an independent and a one Perfect being who is ready to fly the wings and take everything he learnt forward.
